How to Adjust Voltage & Current
Tools needed: Multimeter, flathead screwdriver
- Voltage Adjustment: Rotate the blue potentiometer on the power board. Clockwise increases voltage; counter-clockwise decreases it. Monitor with a multimeter for precision.
- Current Adjustment: Set multimeter to 20A or 10A range. Adjust supply output to 5V. Turn the constant-current potentiometer counter-clockwise ~10 turns to reach minimum current. Short-circuit the output terminals through the ammeter, then rotate the potentiometer clockwise to your target current value.
Important Safety & Usage Notes
- This is a step-down only module — output voltage must always be lower than input voltage.
- If input voltage exceeds 36V, set the ON/OFF switch to OFF before wiring, then switch to ON after connections are made to prevent arcing.
- Under natural (passive) cooling: maximum 400W / 15A. For loads exceeding these values, add an active cooling fan.
- Do NOT directly short-circuit the input negative terminal to the output negative terminal. This module uses low-side current detection — doing so will disable constant-current mode and may cause damage.
- When driving inductive loads (motors) or charging batteries, add an external reverse protection diode to the output.
- Overvoltage protection is not built in — do not exceed the rated 95V input.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between the 400W rated power and the 500W listed power?
A: The module is rated at 400W output under natural (passive) air cooling at a maximum of 15A continuous. The 500W capability can be reached when an active cooling fan is added to handle higher thermal loads. Always ensure adequate cooling for sustained high-power operation to maintain efficiency and longevity.
Q: Can this buck converter boost voltage as well as reduce it?
A: No. This is a step-down (buck) converter only. The output voltage must always be at least 2V lower than the input voltage. If you need to increase voltage, you would require a separate boost (step-up) converter module.
Q: Is this module suitable for charging lithium batteries or running DC motors?
A: Yes, with an important precaution. When connecting to inductive loads such as motors, or when charging batteries, you must add an external reverse protection diode to the output terminals. The module does not include built-in output reverse current protection, and omitting the diode may cause damage to the module or the connected device.
Q: How do I safely wire the module when using a high-voltage input above 36V?
A: Before making any wiring connections, set the ON/OFF switch on the module to the OFF position. Connect all input and output wires first, then apply power to the source, and finally flip the switch to ON. This procedure prevents potentially dangerous arcing or sparking during the wiring process.
